Planning For The Asset Rich Baby Boomer Generation
Intergenerational Estate Planning
Financial Advisers and Planners oversee a large share of the UK’s wealth management industry. Increasingly, attention is now turning to those individuals who, for many years, have built up their wealth through assets like property and businesses rather than savings and pensions.
The Asset Rich Boomer (ARB) Generation.
Typically, the Baby Boomer generation was born between 1946 and 1964. Their typical age range today being between 58-76 years old.
We are seeing growing numbers of the ARB generation having liquidity events such a business sales.
Consequently, these liquidity events channel increasing numbers of clients to our services in terms of their estate planning and structuring requirements, such as utilising Family Investment Companies and Trusts.
The ARB generation have not typically had a long-term relationship with a Financial Adviser or Wealth Planner as, in their eyes, there has been no need.
Their relationship has always been with a mortgage broker to secure new lending deals. However, as the number of liquidity events increase, we are seeing the demand to seek out a financial relationship is growing.
The Ralstan Group is often the missing component in the journey of tax and estate planning. Clients and advisers speak to us both pre realisation and post sale, of property and business assets. Additionally, this is then combined with how to structure one’s affairs, tax efficiently, once the liquidity events have occurred.
Some Key Facts:
- 20% of the UK population is 65+
- About 70% of UK Household wealth is held by the over 55’s.
- Amongst those people who are close to retirement age, around 80% say they probably need financial advice but only 1/5 people seek it out.
- The death rate in the UK will exceed the birth rate in the next 3 years!
Furthermore, it appears many of the large investment providers are racing to expand into this market. However, automation and advances in technology fail to recognise the personal nature of relationships that are required with the ARB investor.
The Ralstan Group prides itself on being a ‘go to’ resource for clients and their advisers. We have a library of case study material to use with clients – please see here.
We can also arrange a call with you to discuss planning opportunities that exist for the ARB Generation.
